In honor of the summer solstice I’m getting colorful! I‘ve been experimenting in the studio recently and revisiting my love for paper marbling, this time incorporating it into my screen prints. These are all test sheets but they already have me swooning. I wasn’t going to reveal my plans until later this summer, but I am too excited to keep these a secret! I have always loved psychedelic aesthetics, so it feels good to incorporate them into my artwork in a way that still aligns with the printshop’s vibe. Paper marbling is one of those processes that is immediately satisfying and I find so much joy in seeing how the marbling patterns visually interact with the printed images. I first learned how to marble paper when I studied in Florence, Italy back in 2009. It was such a special experience and, every time I marble a piece of paper, I am reminded of the fond memories of my time there. In this way, rediscovering paper marbling has been therapeutic and allowed me to build a beautiful bridge between my past and where I’m headed with my artwork in the future. The final creations won’t be done for quite a while but, in the meantime, I hope you enjoy these test prints as much as I do!
