I'd add that for many black people, ancestry is real hard to trace

see, that criticism seems fair (and i’ve seen it pop up on reblogs before). but if that’s all it is, the jump from non-black to white is still eluding me.

this is literally my favorite series, def mainly because of nostalgia but still...morwen is still life goals & wife goals

nice! i honestly wasn’t completely sold on the series based on the first book, but with comments like these, i’ll definitely get around to the others at some point.

yeah i'm gay and this happens to my fiancee and i alllll the time. definitely feels like a thing.

that sucks, and yeah, i think it’s the same thing. whatever mental calculus goes into a waitperson (or whoever) deciding whether the pair of people in front of them is a couple or not, they’re bringing their own baggage of expectations to it. same-sex and/or interracial couples are probably going to be misread more than other pairings.

that being said, it doesn’t happen all that often to me and gabby (white husband and black wife). i mentioned it yesterday precisely because it seemed so out of the ordinary for us -- not the first time we got asked if we wanted separate checks, but the first time in a long while. 

(i also still think that the natural assumption for a waitperson would be to assume any party of two is sharing a check, but then, i’ve never worked in a restaurant setting, so what do i know.)

How does one manage to do that, though? Like... I guess if the artist stares straight at it while not looking down at what they're painting? Also... is that a painting that everyone forgets as soon as they turn away? What would even be the point?

Excellent! I hope you like it. Classic Who is very long, and it can be jarring at first since its format is so different from most modern shows. There was definitely a different sensibility in storytelling back then, and you should be prepared for a lot of scenes of people standing around talking or just running vaguely through corridors. But even still, it's a great program and the classic Doctors and companions are all wonderful. There's a lot to enjoy, for sure... And I guarantee you'll be surprised to see how many aspects of the new show got their start way back then.

Joe! I feel like you would know the answer to this: where can I find and watch the older episodes of Doctor Who? Netflix has some, but I want to start from the beginning with the first story of the first Doctor.

Hi! Glad to hear you’re starting Classic Who, and hope I can be of some help. I’m not aware at the moment of any individual site that links to every episode, but all (or almost all) of them can be found uploaded on the site dailymotion.com.

My advice would be to look at a list like this one to get the name of the serial you want and then just google that name. One of the top results should be a copy of the episode on dailymotion; if not then try putting site:dailymotion.com at the end of your search.

It’s a bit of a pain to do that for every episode, so if you have the time and the space (pun intended), you might want to consider torrenting entire seasons or Doctors at a time. But if the goal is to stream them instantly without downloading anything, finding individual episodes on dailymotion is the best strategy I know.
