Destabilisation | Mary + Andromeda
"Code Black!"
The cry reaches Andromeda’s ears along with a commotion coming from the floor of Spell Damage ward just outside her open office door. The quill in her hand drops to the desk surface as Andromeda jumps to her feet and swiftly strides out of her office. That code alerts all hands to the area, healers already turning from their other tasks to wait for instructions for this particular patient.
Coming to stand at the side of the patient, already transferred to a stable gurney, Andromeda’s sharp gaze takes in the situation. The young man is unconscious and clearly by the code, his heart is failing; deep lacerations litter his body, bleeding profusely, losing blood by the minute.
"Cast a heart monitoring spell," she demands, looking up and laying eyes on the first healer she spots. "Healer Macdonald, assist. Begin cutting his clothing away, quickly now. Healer Hartwood, bring us at least five bottles of blood replenishing potion. Healer Pratt, begin the stabilising spell until Macdonald finishes with the clothes, then she will take over. We need to keep his heart from failing so it better not slip—make it a smooth transition. And Macdonald—it better hold."
Andromeda gaze is steady and confident as she looks at Mary from across the patient, her own wand held out as she casts a conjuring spell to reveal an image above his body showing the condition of the man’s organs for internal bleeding. Large red areas shine out from the transparent image, speaking of pockets of damaged tissue bleeding out inside just as badly as the flesh wounds across the man’s torso. Holding a stasis spell is a challenge for any healer after a length of time, requiring a level of concentration and commitment to keeping the patient from slipping away. But as she makes eye contact with Mary, a girl she’s helped trained personally since she first came into the hospital, Andromeda is certain this is a challenge the girl can take on and accomplish.
