Our Future Together || Hanna & Caleb
The weather was perfect for being in the middle of spring. It was starting to get to the point where you could actually feel the seasons changing from winter to summer, and almost warm enough to where putting on a jacket to go outside wasn’t necessary. Normally Hanna would be excited about it, about being able to finally start wearing her summer dresses and other cute outfits that she had been dying to put on all year, but her stomach was growing larger by the day, and baggy sweatshirts were quickly becoming a part of her regular wardrobe. Although she loved the little one that was growing inside of her, she wished that getting the size of a watermelon wasn’t something that needed to happen. It was in times like this that she was thankful she had a car, so that she could escape from her small town and drive off to a different city. She thought it would be nice to spend the day with Caleb, to be able to walk around somewhere they couldn’t possibly run into anyone they knew, and that’s exactly what they did. After school, they jumped in the car and drove a couple towns over until they found a small, quiet park that had trails surrounding a lake – it was perfect.
They walked in silence for a while and enjoyed the beauty around them, content with just holding each other’s hand. As they made their way down the path, Hanna took a moment to close her eyes, letting Caleb guide the way while she breathed in the crisp afternoon air. Her whole body instantly relaxed from the warmth of the sun beating down on her skin through the small breaks in the trees. This was exactly what she needed – especially after how anxious she had been all morning. It was their first day back to school since Spring Break, and all she could get herself to do while she sat in class was stress about whether or not people could tell that her stomach had grown twice the size. She knew her friends noticed a difference - seeing the strange looks they had given her when she walked up to the group before school. It honestly terrified her to the point where she had steered clear of them for the rest of the day. The last thing she wanted was to be questioned, but she figured that avoiding them had probably made it worse and they wouldn’t hold back from giving her the third degree about it the following day. But she quickly pushed the thought aside for the time being, not wanting to ruin the perfect moment, and continued to glance down at her stomach. Her bump was prominent, only covered by the tank top she had on since she decided that it would be fine to leave her jacket in the car. “I can’t believe I’m already nine weeks. It said online that she was an inch long and about the size of a grape.” Hanna smiled, placing her free hand on her extended belly and raised her eyes to look over at him. “It’s hard to imagine that we’re actually going to be able to hold her in our arms in seven months.”
