Having temporarily taken care of their ghostly enemy, the hybrid expeditiously flipped through Philippe’s grimoires in search of anything that could give him an understanding of the power he was up again. Samuel wasn’t familiar with such magic, and discovering an actually helpful spell would take time, a luxury they couldn’t afford. When Àngel’s unconscious body was brought before him, his face fell in sadness. Could they possibly lose the beloved human? Samuel shook away the despairing thoughts out of his head and got back to work. 

After a half hour of finding nothing, Samuel’s eyes widened in victory after he ran across a beneficial and valuable spell. He quickly tore the pages and made his way over to Philippe. “I have something that can help,” the hybrid spoke. “I’ll be able to astro-project you into the world Àngel is in. However, to posses the kind of power to cast it, I need a conduit. A vampire, preferably someone older than you with a high pain tolerance,” Samuel explained.

Once Philippe gave him his permission, the hybrid grabbed a steel knife and a bowl before returning to Arashi’s room. He took hold of the slave’s burning hand and cut his palm, allowing the blood to drip out. Humiliated more than anything, he was unable to fathom how his magic paled in comparison to the sorcerer who’s cursed Philippe’s claim. Perhaps Samuel was simply outmatched, but he refused to give up. His ambition to prove he was the superior spell caster gave him a better reason to actually help Philippe. After all, no one can hold a candle to Samuel Aldridge. 

He walked over to the living room to find Philippe with an unfamiliar visitor. “Who is he?” Samuel questioned right before shaking his head in annoyance. “Never mind. Did you still want me to cast the locator spell, or not?”

Fluttering his groggy eyes open, Samuel’s vision finally began to clear up. Every single part of his body ached. Moving a single muscle resulted in agony. He found himself in a dim lighted room, windowless with thick brick walls. If the hybrid didn’t know any better, Samuel would have thought he was back in the Undercroft. Both of Samuel’s hands hung above his head, bound by seemingly impenetrable chains. He struggled to break free, which caused him even more pain. 

That’s when he started to recall the events that transpired. The horrific memories flashed before him, and Samuel began to put all the pieces together like a puzzle which revealed how he ended up in this situation. Henryk’s betrayal… the return to his hybrid body under the obedience spell's influence… Philippe’s liberation… the Nightmare Blade… and then all black at that point. He looked down, realizing the dark object was still embedded deep inside his chest. Samuel groaned. The door open with an eerie creak.

Low and behold, his visitor was Philippe. The vampire’s words rang through his head like a terrible refrain from a symphony of nightmares. I will always win… Samuel simply gave him a scornful look. “How long?” he managed to ask, his voice soft and cracking. “Until my execution?”

With his accomplice in crime having left the room, Samuel was granted the privilege of having Philippe all to himself. Holding a glass of champagne, he took a sip of the golden bubbly liquid before walking over and gazing down at the detained vampire. What a gorgeous sight. Philippe has never been so appealing to look at until he was in pain and restricted by magical chains. “Henryk’s had his fun. Now it’s my turn,” he spoke with the intention of inflicting him more torment in his tone. 

He slowly paced around, unable to keep his eyes away from the vampire even for a second like predator with its prey. “You once asked me exactly how many centuries have passed since we last met. Five Hundred A.D. Do you still remember how long we’ve been separated?” Samuel has certainly been keeping track. The day he banished every vampire from his domain was too memorable to forget. “Approximately a millennium and half. Only fifteen years if you count my awakenings.”

The witch materialized a mystical dagger out of thin air. Fine silver, possessing the ability to draw blood with but a single touch against skin. “I wasted fifteen hundred years of my life sleeping because of you. Well, that’s exactly how many stabs you’ll be receiving,” he told him, pointing the bladed at the vampire.

Despite of the degrading leash around his neck, Samuel was having a pretty good time. Philippe was decent company and a pretty good escort so far. The hybrid just wished he wouldn’t tug him the moment Samuel’s eyes drifted to somebody else and desiring to do more than stare. After partaking in the festivities, the two found themselves seated in the Blood Bar. That’s when they caught sight of the young yet nevertheless handsome vampire walking closer to them. “Join us for a drink?” Philippe asked. Samuel raised his glass up, inviting him over.
