Faxada- Paraa (Album Review)
Faxada is a multi-instrumental electronic producer and Paraa is his second LP released late last year. Faxada’s debut Cohost was one of my favorite electronic albums of 2017 a mix of plunderphonics and general experimentation. On Paraa he takes the ability to shift and blend tracks and pushes it further on this album.
Paraa’s made up of one to two-minute collages of jagged sounds that range from what could be field sounds, warped electronics/effects, and some natural instruments as well. There are times when the tracks are really more of loose expression of noisy sound without a rhythmic beat. Other times there are ( “Month” or “Happy Tongue”) more obvious grooves that develop underneath the layers of sound. Where Cohost would let you exhale with tracks that breathed beautifully I might add, Paraa is punk-like in that takes a lot of the space out of those tracks, keeps the digitally jagged sounds and strings them together like two-minute burst of active alien mechanisms. Every sonic element is clear and cuts through on this noisy barrage of music.
Paraa is a noisy, detailed, complex and exhilarating. I really like Faxada’s willingness to experiment with sound and production and to progress as an artist. To not only challenge himself but those listening to him. So if you’re looking for some industrial/experimental electronic music I definitely recommend giving Paraa a listen.
