The Parable Series were the first books I read in quarantine. I’d had these books for months, and when quarantine began, my gut said NOW, READ THIS ONE NOW. Though published in 1998, it mirrors so closely to our current times, where the Oppressor in this series, a politician running for president, runs on the slogan “Make America Great Again.” 😳 He’s a Christian fundamentalist hell-bent on reforming America to Christian only values, and allows his “crusaders” to collar and enslave humans in an effort to reform them. . I am so enraged and exhausted by these countless stories of oppression. Too many beautiful Black Lives have been lost with little to no repercussions, and like Groundhog Day, it keeps happening over and over. And this pain is echoed throughout many communities. I hear it even now as Asians are ridiculed for Covid19, as Mexican and South American lives are torn from their families and locked in facilities located on this countries soil. . We have to get out and vote. We have to give a shit. We have to make our art count. We have to make our words count. While others are frenzied by the porn section of distractions, bitterness and hateful arguing, we have to get to work. . And for all of you who didn’t vote last election because in your eyes there were no good choices, a Trump Presidency is what you’ve sowed. If you didn’t see a petulant, ill-tempered reality tv show host who pretends to have Godly values to get votes, while he grabs women’s pussies, and you didn’t see him as a threat then, then now is the time for you to take a stand - stop being a voyeur of your own life. Inaction makes us accountable. . “Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought. To be led by a coward is to be controlled by all that coward fears. To be led by a fool is to be led by the opportunists who control the fool. To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen. To be led by a liar is to ask to be told lies. To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.” -- Octavia E.
