I packed a really big box (I'm at that annoying 'misc. shit going everywhere' stage of packing) so I get to talk about crossovers! Look, people don't have to read, but sometimes I need to talk.
Anyway, the thing is, Thor and Loki, right? So you've got these rivalry god guys and it seems like everyone in the limited area of Who fandom I follow is just frothing at the bit to see the Doctor/Master comparisons. Which really isn't my cup of tea because incest upsets me a great deal. Also taking Avengers into account gives headtilt because if there is one thing the Doctor has never been willing to do it's be proactive and go and find his idiot and collect him.
But. I mean. That's not to say there's not a crossover in the making there. I mean. You've got these brothers, right? You've got these brothers and one of them is brash and arrogant and through the process of being exiled makes friends with people he once would have thought of as less intelligent species and grows up and learns that maybe his home and his people and he himself aren't the most central things in the entire universe.
And then you have this other brother, the one who's clever and manipulative and loves his brash and arrogant brother but loves his world more. This other brother who's not above a little deceit if he thinks he knows better about what ought to happen, who doesn't necessarily crave higher office but certainly aspires to it and who's left dealing with power vacuums and an impending war (which his once-arrogant brother might have been more than a little of a contributing factor to). Who also has to occasionally deal with the fallout of his brash brother's friends following him out into the universe.
And the brother-in-exile saves worlds and is lauded and eventually gets brought home to be offered the highest office in the land. (AND ALSO HAS TO LEAVE HIS LADY FRIEND WHO MAY NOT ENTER HIS WORLD BEHIND, I AM JUST SAYING.) And the brother who stayed and dealt with the fallout is condemned for his underhanded tactics.
Look I am not saying it is a perfect comparison but you could do a lot worse than a Thor= the Doctor & Loki=Braxiatel crossover I AM JUST SAYING.
Seriously it would be so much fun. If nothing else who doesn't want to see Brax in those horns.
Also because I had nothing to do but think this over on the bus this morning, I have to say that if I were writing this fic I would have it be a joke in House Lungbarrow that the Lungbarrow boy's are half human on their mother's side, a ridiculous jibe that explains all their eccentricities, especially the younger one. Everyone knows it has no basis in fact, both their parents are fine upstanding Time Lords and the Looming records are on file. That doesn't stop the Doctor half-believing it, of course, telling himself quietly that it justifies why he's a bit different, that it's manifest destiny directing him.
Except, of course, because this is a Thor crossover, the Doctor isn't half human on his mother's side. He's not in any way human at all. Braxiatel, on the other hand? Is. Turns out his father was a little indiscreet in his younger days, brought the baby back to Gallisgard and bribed someone to lie about being Loom-donor for the kid, raised him Time Lord and made sure no one ever knew.
Of course, this is where it falls apart a little because Brax would never freak out like Loki did. Brax ~doesn't care~. He might one day go and assassinate the party who lied just to maintain silence/tie up loose ends, but that's not going to be personal. Buttt I don't care because I really really like the idea of inverting the half-human thing. Because having the Time Lord who isn't an Earthophiliac have the genetic inheritance for it is fun.
And now I need to go pack some more. But that is, very incoherently, the Thor/Doctor Who crossover I prefer over the Doctor/Master = Thor/Loki variety. Because brothers, you guys. Brothers.
