While the ball admittedly wasn’t so bad it was still quite a lot of people, and a lot of fake smiles and small talk that she had to endure since the desserts and pastries all around the party were due to her. Her recipes and her ideas- which her boss made sure to boast about. It was odd, being in some sort of spotlight. It left her kind of uneasy.
At least the mask somewhat helped. And at least there was plenty of free alcohol.
On her second glass of champagne (and her third ‘kind’ denial of a dance) Charlie felt her phone buzzing in the hidden pocket of her dress and she looked down at her, her insides doing a little flip when she saw Alex’s name pop up. Tonight would have at least been a bit more bearable with a friend around. She figured his text would just be to see how things were going, and she vaguely flirted with the idea of ditching the ball early and asking if he wanted to hang out on the roof, but those thoughts all kinda flew out the window when she saw his message. Come out to the gardens. She looked up and then around immediately.
Was he here?
Downing the rest of her glass, Charlie made her way through the crowd and out one of the side doors, managing to make her way through the massive palace until she was outside and to the gardens, glad that it was less crowded and more quiet out here. Less anxiety-inducing...even though it was still pretty vast. Finally though she saw someone standing beside one of the many fountains and she cleared her throat softly, tentatively walking over. “Alex?”
