The Girl
When I turned eight years old, I lived in an old mobile house in the middle of the woods. Once we moved in, I noticed something about the house felt different.. it made me paranoid and uncomfortable and I had no idea why. When we first moved in I was playing outside and I'd find these old toys half covered in the dirt, old and broken. We never knew what happened to the people who lived in the house before us, the seller would never tell us. Not to long after moving in I discovered scratch marks and carved writing on my bedroom walls along the floor, but I could never understand what was written.
Eventually things started happening, the lights would turn on and off, as well as our TV's. At night I'd start hearing muffled voices and heavy footsteps outside my door. I'd hear the footsteps come closer and enter my room, by then I'd hide under my covers and focus on my breathing. Once I felt it was okay I'd settle back into bed with the covers around me, and then I'd hear breathing right by my ear. I'd freak out and hide under the covers again, shaking and wanting to scream for my parents.
Strange things kept happening around the house and even when I felt scared that I was gonna get hurt, nothing ever happened to me or my family. Right after I turned fifteen, my TV had been turning on and off by itself. One time I saw the button on my TV move and the channels started changing. The remote was right beside me but I wasn't messing with it. Later on I was sitting at my desk and the channels started changing by itself again. I decided to take a chance and spoke up "Can you please stop changing the channels for right now?" I heard nothing back but a second later the channels stopped changing. What I saw next left me breathless.
I heard a shuffle on my bed and turned around in my desk chair to see the glimmer of a person sitting cross legged on my bed, looking at the TV. When I say glimmer, I mean that I could see through her. She was there, but in a way she wasn't. Sunlight was streaming in through my window, and it made her seem brighter. Looking at her I noticed she was around ten years old, with an old white dress on and black hair. She turned her head and looked at me, she smiled and then nodded. I remember rubbing at my eyes and blinking several times, I kept thinking there was no way I was seeing this girl on my bed.
When I opened my eyes again, she was gone and the channel was back on what I had it on. Every now and then I think back to that and wonder if she was someone who had died in that house, I wonder what could have happened that I along with other's, don't know. I've seen a few things since then, things I can't explain. But that one girl has always stuck with me.
