Among the summer clouds....
JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska (July 17, 2018) -- United States Army paratroopers descend among the summer clouds toward the Malamute Drop Zone near Anchorage, Alaska.
More than 400 soldiers parachuted as part of a field training exercise -- setting up defensive positions upon landing, executing tactical organization and assault movements, and performing an airfield assault.

I’ve always admired the mesmerizing beauty -- and profound bravery -- of paratroops descending from the peaceful heavens....as they knowingly insert themselves into the potential wartime hell that awaits them on the ground.

“Modelling United States Army’s New ‘Jump’ Suits,” Ottawa Citizen. February 26, 1941. Page 13. --- No men from Mars are these, but members of the 501st parachute battalion at Fort Benning, Ga., showing off the U.S. Army’s new ‘jump suits,’ especially designed for ‘chutists. Worn with special crash helmets, the suits are one-piece, of heavy snag-proof olive drab materials. Boots are also of special design, having an inner sole of sponge rubber. ‘Models,’ left to right, are Sergeants Edgar F. Dodd, Lemuel T. Pitts, Robert L. May, and William N. King.
