Pardoner Fennel
Pardoner Fennel Boss Fight - Caiso Mario World (Performed by Wyatt)
Pardoner Fennel from "Momodora Reverie Under the Moonlight" for Best Boss Waifu!
2020 Game of the Year Countdown #4: Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight Nintendo Switch (2016/2019)
This is a pretty short and simplistic game, presented in a very SNES-like way. Old school games didn’t often have the space or complexity to dive into really deep, detailed stories. Megaman X, for example, was a great game; but the actual story is fairly bare-bones and leaves a lot up to the player when it comes to piecing together a narrative of the journey. I’d say Momodora is similar in that way. For example, Pardoner Fennel is a character you meet, and there is almost no information about her, but she has a pretty big cult following online. I’d guess that even more fanart exists of her than of the main character, Kaho. Part of that might be because her sword is completely red and that is pretty iconic.
There isn’t a whole lot given to the player, but you don’t meet a ton of exposition-spewing NPCs or info dumps found in an in-game library or anything. Instead, you have to take in the setting of the levels, the state of the world, color, music, and ambience. The game is really good at painting a certain type of aesthetic, often bringing a feeling of desolation or hopelessness (which is clearly intended). I’d definitely recommend this game if you like retro-styled games, Metroidvanias, or side-scrolling platformers.
As far as music goes, I really love the track called Darkness/Subterranean Grave. It first plays when you get to the second level, which is a mostly deserted city. It feels creepy and empty and hopeless. It’s atmospheric tracks like this that really draw people into the setting and story that games try to relate.
pardoner fennel.
happy momodora day.
I commissioned @starfleetrambo for the sadistic beauty that is Pardoner Fennel from Momodora IV.
I wasn’t going to post it myself but I realized star’s post didn’t have Momo tags and I know Momo fans wouldn’t want to miss out on more quality Fennel content, so enjoy!

I scanned this ages ago but forgot to post her. I loved her battle a lot (and the music too!) I also did Cath!
