This video from the Center on the Developing Child presents a theory of change that depicts how we can build adult capabilities to improve child outcomes. Providence House focuses on identifying each parent’s individual strengths and areas for growth while providing for meaningful contact between the parent and child. We know that research has identified effective approaches to improve parenting skills and reduce risk for child abuse and neglect. While interventions and concrete supports are important, our individualized parent education sessions use hands-on reinforcement activities that allow for modeling, practice, observation, and feedback to build parent’s confidence and leads to specific, tangible skills development. Parents with children in our crisis nursery invest one to two hours a week in one-on-one education sessions with a Licensed Social Worker. Our parent education program has a lasting impact on the parenting skills of caregivers and on family stability.
