Can you do one where Myc adopts a kid because he feels his life is empty and he becomes pals with Greg bc he's helping him through the process but they fall for each other and Greg proposes to Myc during a meeting and everyone claps and they marry
I did a bit of research for this, so it took a bit. I hope you like it
Hewas in his mid forties, with a successful career as a governmentofficial that allowed him to live a comfortable life. And while thatwas something most people his age and younger dreamed about, Mycroftcould not help but feel that his life had become empty. Looking afterSherlock had been a huge portion of his life from the time he wastrusted to look after him but now Sherlock no longer needed his olderbrother watching over him like he was some sort of child. Over thelast few years Sherlock had gotten himself straightened out, he hadgotten himself clean, found something that kept him occupied and hehad found someone that not only found him to be good company, but hadromantic feelings for him as well. There was no real Reason forMycroft to look after him anymore, leaving Mycroft to find somethingelse to do with his time.
Mycroftattempted throwing himself into his work to fill the void in hislife, but dealing with diplomats and Foreign elections did not helpmake his life feel meaningful again. He knew why, of course. Heneeded someone to look after, to care for. It was something he haddone for such a long time that he felt it was something he had to do.
Ittook a newspaper article on the number of children that were placedinto care (69,540 to be exact) that got him thinking about adoption. There was just one problem, he had no idea how to go about it. Andthat was something he wasn't going to admit. At first he consideredasking a few of his coworkers, though he promptly decided against itwhen he realized they would never let him live it down. He brieflyconsidered asking John but that didn't last long either. This wasn'tsomething he wanted to let Sherlock in on just yet and he could readthe doctor like an open book. He definitely wasn't going to ask hisbrother or his parents for two desperate and yet personal reasons.Sherlock would deduce his reasoning for wanting a child even thoughhe never considered one before and his mother would never leave himalone until the adoption became final and to be quite frank he wantedsome peace during this process.
Hebegan. Thinking of others who would possibly know but then he wasn'tconsidered close to but he knew wouldn't discuss it with anyone. Theonly option his mind supplied was the DI his brother worked with:Gregory Lestrade. He was a reputable officer with a good track recordand had helped a few people with adoptions before. Not to mentionthey weren't that close, it was perfect. Itwas during his lunch hour that he gave the DI a call and made sure hewasn't preoccupied at a crime scene before asking for his assistance.
Gregwas surprised to receive the phone call from Mycroft, asking forassistance or at least a guiding hand with the adoption processbecause he was planning in adopting a child. Greg pretended not toletthe surprise color his voice as they talked andif Mycroft heard it the surprise he didn’t mention it. By the endofthe conversation, he had set up an appointment to meet up withMycroft and promised to call the person he knew at an adoption agencyto get the ball rolling.
Asthe initial shock wore off, Greg was rather pleased that Mycroft waslooking into taking in a kid. Greg knew from years on he force thatplenty of kids went in and out of homes, some of them worse thenothers, and some of them never got their forever home. The fact someone was going to end up in one made him feel happy, and the fact thathe was going to help with that process made his heart swell.
Thetwo of them met for coffee a few days later at a shop not to far fromNSY, It wasn’t as awkward as Mycroft would have expected it to be,especially since he had only met with Greg a handful of times, eachof which had to do with Sherlock in some manner, but this time it wasdifferent. He was nervous. He didn’t really know what to expectfrom this process, of course he had done his own research on thematter but it would be easier with the help of someone else. Notthat he would ever admit it.
“Iappreciate your willingness to help me in this venture Gregory.”Mycroft spoke as he brought his mug up to his lips to take a sip.
“Iam really surprised that you came to me for this.”
“Youare the only one I trust when it comes to this, if I am honest.”Mycroft replied “Not to mention you are rather knowledgeable on thematter.”
Gregfaltered slightly at the words, he cleared his throat and took a sipof his coffee before he spoke, changing the subject.
“Ihave no doubt that you’ve already done your research on the matter, read some information on the process and the fact you showed up todayproves you are rather interested in adoption. Ihave contacted the agency that works with us and they are more thanhappy to work with you on this process.
Heslid the card across the table to Mycroft, who took it and looked itover before nodding
Afterleaving the coffee shop, Mycroft made his way down to the agency tobegin the process
Overthe next few months he went through the registration and checkprocess, giving them all of the information they required, answeringquestions honestly. It was only after he was certain that he was notgoing to be rejected by the agency did he begin to tell a few people, his superiors, who would be more than willing to write him referenceletters for this process.
Gregof course was there to offer support and even decided to meet him upfor tea after each of his preparation group meetings.
Gregwas the first person he told he was moving on to Stage two of theAdoption Process. This process was longer, a four month processinstead of the two months before that for stage one.
Mycroftfilled out his assessment plan, did the home studies, the training, and attended the preparation group meetings with the others. He satdown with the social workers to discuss his family and his childhood.
Gregwas there every step of the way.
Thetwo of them had been growing closer during this process, they wouldtalk over tea or coffee after meetings, occasionally they would meetfor dinner when time permitted and somewhere along the way Mycroftfound himself falling for the detective that had given up his time tohelp him and from the way Greg looked at him when he thought hewasn’t looking, it appeared that he felt the same way.
Theday the agency began looking for a child to place in Mycroft’scare, Greg asked him out on a date
Ayear after he had begun the Adoption Process, A five year old boynamed Lyle was matched with him. Mycroft was estatic at the factthey had matched him with a child and it wasn’t long before theybegan meeting in order for the two of them to get to know one anotherbefore Lyle moved in.
Lylewas a quiet boy with a mop of dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Mycrofthad learned he had been there for some time and the older he hadgotten the less likely people were to adopt him. To Mycroft, the ageof the child didn’t matter. He had told them that to begin with allthat mattered was that he and Greg fell in love with him instantly
Threemonths later, Lyle moved in. Mycroft and Greg had redecorated abedroom closest to the Master bedroom. They painted it a light greenand decorated it in a jungle motif to appeal to the little boy’slove for the jungle and the animals that lived in it.
Thefirst time Lyle saw it was the first time he wrapped his arms aroundMycroft in a hug.
Mycroftstill found time for dates with Greg, but they were few and farbetween, though Greg never minded and he never complained. He lovedseeing Mycroft with the little boy he had brought into his home andthat he was working to make his son. He had seen a side of MycroftHolmes no one really got to see: The kind, caring, compassionate manunder the cold hard exterior he presented. And he felt honored to seeit.
Theday that Mycroft applied to the court to become Lyle’s legal parentwas the day Greg decided he wanted to Marry the man.
Gregproposed in the middle of the hallway in the courtroom after theadoption had become final.
Theymarried a year later.
