     The question hurt and made pain shoot through the marrow of his bones, but what truly made that pain sharp, made it strike oh so deep, was how easily his mind answered for him, how easily Tomura popped up within his mind. Moments of them together came up and overflowed his thoughts, his vision and one stood clearer than all the rest.

Visions of Kaito was there as well, within them was warmth, a bright light and a gift that Dabi thought he would never get, never experience in his life and yet, he had. He had become a parent and with it came a big responsibility. However, never mind what, it would always be him.

                                      “  I can’t live without him.  “

It had always been him. And choosing Tomura over Kaito was mercy, choosing Kaito would have been dooming him to a life of suffering and misery, of watching Dabi slowly go mad with grief and longing. That was no life, it was no life for both of them. Many would disagree with him, but many hadn’t experienced what he had. Many hadn’t felt what true love felt like, as if your heart didn’t beat simply for you and as if the warmth in the world wasn’t produced by the sun, but by that single person, who made everything better, made every bearable and made your life worth something.

    “  Tomura... I will always choose him.. If he isn’t here,                                                                then the world will burn and I with it.  “

A sniffling Kaito climbs next to Dabi onto the bed and pokes him repeatedly to get his attention. It's late at night and terribly dark outside, and Kaito can't stand the thought of being alone right now. "Papa, I had a nightmare." He sniffles again and rubs his eyes, all the while cursing them for leaking. "'m scared."

      Dabi had been curled up against Tomura, wrapped in the familiar arms, when he had suddenly felt soft pokes and a youthful presence caressing his senses. Feeling that, azure hues slowly opened and a groan danced from partly scarred lips as he blinked a couple of times, to adjust to the darkness before focusing on the sight before him. Seeing Kaito here was something Dabi hadn’t expected as their brat usually slept pretty well. However, hearing the reason, the heavily scarred male immediately forced himself up before gently, doing what seemed most natural, and that was, pulling Kaito close. Slender arms embraced the small form before guiding him to lay down with him.

        “  Hey. Nothing will happen to you as long as papa and dad is here, okay ?  “

Dabi spoke softly as a single hand rubbed along the small back. Had this been a few months back, then Dabi would have merely told Kaito to get into the bed with nothing more added, but now, Kaito had wormed his way into his heart, something that Dabi did not regret as he held the boy close. No, in fact, he was thankful, something he thought he never would be, for he had seen Kaito as nothing but a burden the first days the little brat had suddenly appeared in their lives. Now, Dabi would kill anyone who so much as dared taking a hair from Kaito’s head.

                                       “  Listen, can you hear that ?  “

The question left softly as Dabi held Kaito against his chest, where the little one could undoubtedly feel and hear the strong beat beneath his chest as it vibrated gently against his rib-cage.                                            “  Now focus on that..  “

Soon, Dabi began to hum a familiar melody, deep and gentle as he closed his eyes while letting himself relax again. Never did the light caresses cease as he kept on humming until he felt Kaito’s breathing become softer and more calm.

They are sitting in front of the TV with snacks and soda, but the previously relaxed atmosphere has shifted somehow. "Papa? Who is that?" The hero on TV has a flame quirk like them. Maybe papa knows him?

     It had started out to be a very nice day with him teaching Kaito a thing or two about his quirk that had awakened a while back, something that had ended with them on the couch, with a few snacks and soda as he had promised his brat a reward for doing so well during their training session. However, of course that peace wasn’t left undisturbed as HE had to appear.

Tension immediately took over, filling the heavily scarred male with a slight choking sensation, as a few memories surfaced at the sudden man that flashed upon the flat-screen, a sight that made the edges of his scars ache in a rather unpleasant manner. He always appeared to ruin EVERYTHING.

Suddenly hearing the familiar, youthful voice near him, azure hues snapped away from the screen and fear briefly grabbed at Dabi’s heart at the image that his mind came up with as soon as his gaze landed on his brat; Kaito burned, bruised - injured, a sight that made a sharp inhale dance in the air before rich depths forced it away with a few blinks. Taking a few calming breaths, Dabi reached over to pull Kaito closer, to hold him, protectively within his arms, like the heavily scarred male would if he ever showed. Not that Dabi would ever let Kaito anywhere near that, disgusting piece of shit.

“  The worst of them all. The person who least deserves the title that he carries. It’s people like him, that stops us from being truly happy,  “ Dabi spoke calmly as his eyes stared at the screen with pure hatred, a hatred that made the depths almost burn in the low light. “  However, papa and dad will take care of him and make sure that he won’t ever hurt you.  “
