#2791 - Parides eurimedes - True Cattleheart
AKA the mylotes cattleheart, Arcas cattleheart, and pink-checked cattleheart.
The eight subspecies are found from Mexico to Venezuela and Equador, usually i forests, were the caterpillars feed on Dutchman's Pipe vines (Aristolochia sp.). This makes the caterpillars and adult butterflies quite poisonous, a fact they advertise with their bright markings. At least eleven genera of related butterflies also feed on Aristolochia - they've cerainly found their niche.
