if you had told yourself from a week ago that you'd be in park minseok's bed, feeling your head rise and fall with his chest, you would've laughed. or been terrified that somebody had found out about your crush. or both.
it really was never meant to end like this. it was one party, one game, one dare. you and minseok, together in a dark, cramped closet for a round of 7 minutes in heaven. or maybe it was hell because of the way his breath tickled your neck, the way he seemed calm even though it was anything but for you with you basically sitting on his lap in a closet barely big enough for one person, let alone two. it was even the way he genuinely cared about how you felt, asking "are you comfortable?" every 30 seconds. but when you say it like that, it seems like eventually, it'd be guaranteed for you and him to get together.
you had spent your entire college career until now avoiding minseok like the plague. it would have been detrimental to your social standing. i mean, it was him - he was the league of legends playing, home-staying, stereotypical loser. even still, sometimes when there was nothing else to distract you, you wondered about him. what he was like. you can't even remember when you started to like him. maybe when he stopped by the journalism office for his interview about research he'd won some award for.
"please don't make this harder than it has to be," he says quietly. "i know you wanna avoid me or whatever, but-"
"i don't," you say with just a little too much force. his ears turn slightly pink, but is that really a sign of anything? he gets so easily flustered that asking him to pass the salt would give him the same effect. or maybe it's because it would be you asking.
“um, let’s just get to the questions, okay? then we can both go back to your lives,” you say after a beat of silence. he nods his head almost too quickly in agreement.
the interview itself was nothing special. luckily for you, you can lose yourself in your job and detach from any kind of emotion you feel. but you can tell just by looking at him that minseok's using all his strength to keep himself together. the poor guy looks like he's being crushed by the weight of holding eye contact with you, and it almost made you wonder why you ever avoided him in the first place. you quickly shake it off, though, and send him on his way.

after that interview, it seems like he's appearing in places he never used to before. and worse, your eyes always seemed to follow him. the next time you see him, it's the next semester. you have a microbiology class with him, and it was just your luck that the only empty seat that wasn't too close or too far to the projector was next to him. of course, it was awkward when you first sat down. it's almost like your assignment wasn't to review the syllabus but to avoid eye contact with him.
the first two weeks, everything was seamless otherwise. but one night after your classes, minseok catches you before you get to your dorm. he brushes your wrist to stop you, and the action makes you flinch. "uh, hey, [name]. i, um, was wondering if you had the notes from microbiology today. i had to attend something for my club," he stammers. seeing his face more in detail makes your face heat up for some reason. "oh, hi, minseok. i don't have the notes on me, but i can text them to you. what's your number?," you reply. he seems entranced by every word you speak, and it only catches you more off guard when you realize it. "it's xxx-xxx-xxxx. thank you so much, you don't know how much you're saving me right now," he says a little awkwardly. something about him is oddly attractive to you, you realize, but before it can even become a fully fleshed thought, you internally scoff. "don't worry about it. i'll text them to you when i get home," you reply with a bit of edge. you walk slightly faster to your dorm and send the notes.
on your phone:
thanks again [name]. sorry this is out of the blue but what’s ur favorite candy?
ofc! and umm i'd probably say gummy clusters 🙂↕️
ok cool. cya next lecture

when you get to your dorm, your roommate, kiki, is lounging on the couch under her loft bed. living together for the past year has given the both of you a sixth sense to each other's moods, so when you walk in with a look on your face, she's quick to notice. "what's up with you?," she asks, looking up from her phone. "it's nothing," you shrug off. you should know by now that "nothing" is never sufficient for her. "come on, [name]. we both know that something is giving you that weird look on your face," she laments. "okay, fine. minseok came up to me on my walk home and asked for notes from class. nothing odd happened but it made me feel weird."
"minseok? as in park minseok? as in the one guy we know who hasn't tried to let you hit?"
"yeah. i mean, it's not like he's a creep… i think… but i don't know why i feel like this."
"are you sure it's not a-" before she can get the sentence out, you throw one of the pillows on your bed at her. she seems to take the hint, though.
“fine, fine. but don’t come crying to me if i end up right!” you resist the urge to throw another, because your bed is lofted too and you don’t feel like getting more than one pillow back up there.

by the next lecture, you were a little anxious to see minseok again. you hoped you hadn't come off weird when he approached you the other day, and you subsequently spent the entire walk to the lecture hall thinking about every possible scenario that could unfold when you walked through the door. as you get to your seat, though, you see something: a small bag of gummy clusters! there's a note, too: (block quote) thanks again for the notes. hope this is a decent reward. -minseok (end block quote)
your stomach drops to your ass immediately. he didn't have to do all that!! now you're struggling trying to pay attention to the professor without looking like you're 5 seconds from having a heart attack. in your frenzy, you don't seem to acknowledge him sitting literally in the seat next to you. you quickly give him an appreciative glance before going back to taking notes. if you’re already this flustered now, how will you make it through the rest of the semester?
