According to our reporter at the Supreme Court, the Chief justice has stated that the President has violated the petitioner’s rights through this decision to dissolve Parliament.

Chief Justice Nalin Perera goes on to state that the president cannot dissolve parliament at his own will or before the lapse of 4.5 years. An order was also made quashing the proclamation of the President.

Supreme court to deliver verdict on dissolution of Parliament today

The Supreme Court decision on the petitions filed challenging the gazette notification issued by the President on the dissolution of Parliament will be delivered at 4 pm.

This was confirmed to News 1st by Supreme Court Registrar Pradeep Mahamuthugala.

The petitions were taken up before a 07 judge bench of the Supreme Court.
