The parrot is associated with Kamadeva, the Hindu god of love.
It is thought that this is because their bright colouring represents fertility - the red of their beak representing the earth before rain and the green representing new growth after rain. Kama is also associated with spring, and one of the gods associated with the Hindu festival Holi, which takes place in March.
