Ferris Bueller's Day Off
First of all, forgive me if I misspelled the main character's name.
To be honest, I thought this movie was good, though no where near as good as what it is built up to be. The wittisim in the movie was well timed, and consistent, something that occassionally, movies lack. There was also a constant allusion (references) such as, a quote from John Lennon, a Star Wars reference, an I Dream of Jeanie reference and so many others. Also, very philosophical advice at the beginning and end was a nice touch. And the Charlie Shean cameo was probably the best scene in the entire movie.
However, so many things could've gone wrong in his plan. I think this gave the movie an "I'm too perfect to have anything bad happen to me," theme. They practically made him untouchable. Which, as a writer, is a bad thing to do to your characters. He's good with computers and electronics, extremely popular, can think on his feet, good at speaking, and is good looking. He has too many perfections and no "fatal flaws" other than being compulsive and a bit self-centered. His character was unbalanced when it came to characteristics.
It was just the opposite with Cameron. He worried too much, saw no beauty in the world due to his own imperfections. Paranoid, overly critical of himself, paranoid, overly stressed. They gave him no good qualities other than being loyal. If anything, he acted like a lost puppy who had been kicked to many times and bonded with the first person to feed him.
Not to mention the plot itself was missing something. i'm unsure of what, maybe it was a better balance? Or perhaps more twists in the plot.
