☕️ requesting thoughts on the doubles and doppelgängers motif for the topic ask!

I love this as a storytelling technique in all kinds of media when it's done well (there are films & tv shows that will have characters visually parallel each other and think that's all it requires to show doubling so it ends up being quite shallow). Doubling with the protagonist and antagonist is fascinating to me on many levels - that there is a thin line between good and evil, that the protagonist shares more with the antagonist than they'd like to admit, that there's a reflection of the ugly traits they can't/won't acknowledge. Also the way this can be used to explore wider implications in society. Doppelgängers are one of my favourite horror tropes because the idea of there being an identical version of yourself just really freaks me out for some reason??

I had the pleasure of painting the cover for Pas de Trois, a French adaptation of 'Swan Lake' written by Gwladys Viscardi. Set in a medieval world with European, Middle Eastern and Asian influences, the story follows Emma, Eva and Rawdon.

On the run, lost, and exhausted, the beautiful Emma finds refuge within unknown woods. The peaceful lake with its ambling swans aren't enough to soften the loss of her past life. Prince Rawdon, vain and lonesome, meets Emma during a hunt and immediately falls under her spell. And in the forest, more encounters and dangers lurk. An enchanter casts Emma a cruel curse. Swan by day, human by night, all salvation seems impossible. Unless the ominous, mysterious Eva decides to help. Could the enchanter's daughter turn out to be an unexpected ally?
