UPDATE #004
PEOPLE ARE STRANGE is officially open! all reservations on the tumblr are valid for the next three days, and if you have any questions just ask!
this is going to sound strange as hell but having read that witches need blood sacrifice to perform magic (and that there's a marvel comics character who requires the same), would it be plausible that when a female witch is on her period, said sacrifice does not have to be made via cuts / pricks of the finger and instead they can simply go ahead with performing magic?? since there's already a 'sacrifice' being made (technically)
no worries, anon! the source of the blood/how it’s acquired doesn’t matter, so it can come from anywhere. the one rule of thumb is that animal is less potent than human. so yeah, that would work!
THE VOID
the void is another universe, entirely unlike our own. it's somewhat adjacent to our own, at least enough for its natives to make the trip between the two places, and there's certainly some link between the void and our universe. it's impossible to put a date on just when it sprang into existence, but it and the old ones that reside there are deeply connected to the extent that they're both parts of the whole. the void wouldn't be there without the old ones as they determine its shape, and without a connection to the void, the old ones would fade away.
as well as being home to the old ones, the void is also the place where departed souls find themselves after death. the living (and undead) can't make the trip themselves, though people who've had near-death experiences can temporarily cross over. the way in which the dead perceive their afterlife varies from one person to another, as each gets their own little portion of the void in which to live out the rest of eternity under the watchful eye of the stranger. consequently, their mindset dictates the afterlife they get: heaven and hell only exists in so far as what people believe they deserve.
in order to keep on existing in our world, the old ones need to make regular trips back to the void in order to charge their 'batteries', as it were. the longer they stay here, the more time they'll need away to regain their strength. on average, remaining on earth for seven days would then require a day spent back in the void. every further seven day period after that point would add another day to the required recovery period.
old ones are capable of altering everything about the void, from the way it looks to the way physics and reality function, but that particular ability extends only to that universe. they're able to hop between universes with no trouble whatsoever, while other beings are incapable of doing so unless pulled across by an old one, but even then staying there too long will take its toll on the minds of lesser beings until they're completely out of touch with reality and the world of the living.
however, witches are able to get little glimpses into it that allows for communication with - or covert observation of - old ones or departed spirits, usually in the form of the dreams almost all their kind are plagued by - hence the little grain of truth where mediumship is concerned. it's just a shame that a mortal looking into the void for too long too often tend to go just a little bit (or a lot) mad.
does anyone wanna do a neatchat or something soon about characters and such?
opening date?
this saturday - april 4th!
my second character gifset is coming, I just need to find some lyrics for my character Alastair, and it’s a little difficult since his app isn’t finished yet oops.
hi there! two questions! firstly, is there a set word count? and second, what's the style of the application? thanks!
hiya anon! there’s no set word count - we prefer quality over quantity. and we’ll have a shipper application, but with a section for character history so we get a comprehensive overview of characters!
