OK, so I had a thought:
We know that echoes of the Doctor's previous incarnations exist in their subconscious, and that they can enter their mind and speak to them under certain circumstances. (The Power of the Doctor, Timewyrm: Revelation, Zagreus, probably others)
We also know that the Dream Lord was a manifestation of the Doctor's subconscious, given power by psychic pollen, supposedly representing his dark side. (Amy's Choice)
So is the Dream Lord, in fact, an earlier incarnation of the Doctor, from some point in their forgotten past?
