About 12 years ago, she brought to Ha Noi and gave silk as a gift for her second visit to the artist's house and in the process found herself buying many of the most interesting paintings. I vividly remembered the visit apart from Phạm Lực painting my likeliness on canvas, but because of her, buying some of the most prefered paintings available, even if they were destined for other people; and worst, extracting better prices because of her bulk buying hahaha! Poor the man...driving a hard bargain is inscript in mom's Vietnamese DNA and by her time fighting (and winning) the Quebec Government for better (some would say outrageous) wages and conditions as the head of a union of more than 25 000 members...! Phạm Lực is a soldier/painter for peace and wasn't ready for my mother's interepretatiom of General Võ Nguyên Giáp negociating tactics! Hahaha!
