When the monster had crept onto ranch land, Malon’s first instinct had been to fight it off herself. In the aftermath of Ganon’s reign, there were more hostile creatures roaming Hyrule. Even now, a few years later. They were better under control, but there were still some strays who wrought their wrath on innocents.
But Link was a knight, and he happened to be on a visit. He was faster that her and her pitchfork, and Malon had been forced to watch in horror at the fight.
Had she been the one fending off the beast… then she would have died. That became very clear, very quickly.
It lunged at Link and Malon screamed, a short shout before she clamped her hand over her mouth. There was a raspy groan from the monster, and Link’s breath sounded like it was coming short. She couldn’t see who had won.
“L… Link?” her voice was a trembling whisper. “Link, please tell me you’re ok…”
Would anyone even believe Link if he told them that he wasn't a fan of violence? He hated it, and loathed resorting to it when it came to solving his problems. Fate though didn't seem to agree with him on that, and had no qualms with continuously throwing obstacle after obstacle in his way that required him to take handle it with sword in hand.
Blood spilled from the beast's belly as it collapsed, and black stained the grass beneath it. The sound of heavy panting filled his ears and, after a moment, Link realized that it was the sound of his own /breathing/ that was echoing loudly in his own thoughts.
Link took a few steps toward the fallen body. For a moment he stared down at it before abruptly swinging his blade down, slicing through the monster's throat. The gesture was overkill, perhaps, but it was the only way to ensure the beast was dead.
Another voice. Malon's...
"... I'm..." Blue eyes shut for a moment as weakness seemed to flood into his legs. "I'm fine, Malon. Did it hurt you?"
