Patchwork layout time….. this is 5 different border configuration options……. My base as it is now (made of 4 lilac, blue, and greens) repeats an uneven number of times for no real reason. So the top photo on a row by itself would mean i’d need to add another layer of my core fabrics before adding the two rows of border fabrics…..
i tried four layouts testing my options *without* doing that, with the main principle being to have the patterned fabrics of the core and the border alternating as they are in the core block (pattern/plain/pattern/plain etc), and to keep the fish patterned blue background border away from the plain blue core - the latter wasn’t possible (i think?) if the fish pattern went directly next to the core pieces, so needed to be in the outer frame. Ideally i didn’t want the yellow plain and the crane vivid green pattern to be next to each other, but this would have to happen (as far as i could mock up?) on either the long side or the short side due to squares formed at the far corners of the border fabrics needing to contain one of each border fabric.
So the last photo shows that arrangement happening in the scenario that will lead to the least of this, so along the top and bottom edges rather than all the way along the sides (it’s wayyyyyy skinny rectangle, overall shape wise). I thinkkkkk this is the layout i’m going with? But i will rotate it in my mind a little
(Also i’m going to cherry pick the punk background cuttlefish pattern so that i’m using as many squares with the cuttlefish part of the print as possible, and making sure the colour of those cuttlefish is relatively evenly distributed overall :3)
