The Ring: What’s your favorite tv show? What do you think about the effect of media on people?
My favorite tv show is probably nbc hannibal because that show has been my entire personality for like a year I think it deserves the spot.
Now for the second question I actually have quite a few thoughts on that (sorry this will be incoherent)
Media (sadly) is how most people learn about others. That's why good representation is important because what people see of a group on TV is how people see said group irl.
That's also why we need to be careful with what we glamorize in media. You can have media with touchy subjects, as long as you present it right. Something like Lolita is actively condemning what it presents, HOWEVER some audiences (read: Americans or anything that has been effected by Hollywood) are too dumb to understand nuance in media (mostly due to the media they've been consuming most of thier life). That's how we get people who think take me to church by hozier is a worship song. Subtlety and ironic usage of imagery go completely over these folks heads.
Having a culture of media consumption focused on everything being told to the audience breeds people who dont recognize nuance. There's a reason a lot of Americans are so black and white in how they view the world. It's not just media obviously (the shit education system and parents are also to blame for that) but it does reflect the culture that created it.
