What I have to said about this wonderful fic :
It has been age since the last time I wrote a review. I have been busy ( Having a job and being somewhat an adult. Well, I tried).
And so the first review in ages is not mainly about the ship I am always babbling about. It is mostly about one Christopher Pike, a “ love song to Christopher Pike “ as the author says in the last chapter.
The story is focused on him, from even before his birth to after the Into Darkness movie, showing us his life, adventures, dramas, ... And he has a lot of them, always the first to find troubles and actions, to the despair of his best friend, Philip Boyce, starfleet doctor, who don’t take any bullshit and who has frequent visits to very different jails across the galaxy, unable to resist the sweet song of a good protest.
These two are obviously the main ship of the story and god, they make us wait for it. You see, Chris is a very straight man, very in love with women and a big romantic, so grateful for his best friend who follows him across the universe, always here for him ... Their friendship is very deep and beautiful, and just for that, this fic is a must read ( I am a sucker for deep meaningful frienship).
And for the Mckirk part of the story, well, they are just a bit more clever about things that their respective mentors. Just a bit. Chris and Phil are their number one fanclub and I totally want to join them on that.
Apart from that, we met a lot of characters, many of them OC that I just love : the author did a good job with them. I love that you can feel they have a background and they bring a lot to the story. They belong to the plot and that is not a easy job to so with OC that have big parts to play in a fanfic.
The relashionships between the characters are also interesting. First, between Chris and Philip : This is just sweet, comfortable, but also a bit frustrating when you see things from Philip point of view. Even if he is ready to just spend is life with Chris as his best friend, just to see him happy. And that is true love. Especially since Chris love him nonetheless, even when they are not a couple : I love that in this story, that does not take anything from what they have.
I especially love how Chris and Jim interact. They grow closer along the story and they bring along Philip and Bones. The four of them are at the same time the cutest ever and the most ridiculous. I promess. It is just heart warming to see them support each other.
To finish, I love how the author grafted that story to the movies, bringing her own interpretations and details to scenes directly from the canon.
I can only recommend you to read this fic ! Take a hot cocoa, a warm blanket, and enjoy the epic life story of Christopher Pike. I did and I don’t regret a single second.
