That's quite a big question. Every person can answer for themself why exactly they love it. It might be different from one to another, I cannot answer for everyone!

But, answering from just my side, I love this ship, because.. (Warning! Lot's of text!)

1) I should immediately begin with most obvious reason and fact, I'm objectum. I love ships with computers and other tech! Just the whole dynamic itself

2) As we know, they have an arrangement - they r both helping each other out. We don't know for sure if Sebastian is lying or no, but as one of creators answered to "why can't we take Painter w us?" - "it's Sebastian's job to do it". So I pretty much believe Sebastian wouldn't lie, or at least I love to hc that, since he's not actually a bad person, we do know that he was accused with crimes he didn't do, so he has no reason to be abusive towards Painter

3) We do also know that in canon they r besties, so there's nothing to add to this even. They r besties

And all of those facts build an answer why I love this ship!

4) So we have them being in a good relationship, working also together, and a fact that I'm objectum! And I love hc Painter being blindly in love w Sebastian (bc, again, objectum! And bc Painter is a sweet puter that has human feelings and bc I'm Electric Dreams fan), even if he doesn't love back (bc, again, in MY HEADCANON!, he's still married, but as they get out from the facility he finds out that she already remarried while he was in "prison". So he became alone and finally paid attention to Painter that had been trying to draw attention for a long time). Oh, and also! I love hc that they both may help each other also mentally. So it also makes them closer. They are both suffering and only they can make each other a company to not to be alone on all of this, what brings them closer and warms up my soul

Painter and Sebastian are found family in canon, so they’re brothers

They can't be even possibly brothers since Sebastian was a human being and Painter is a sentient AI that was made by a guy that doesn't even know how he did that. So, in all canons and headcanons it can't be even close to the truth! Sooo if you don't know don't try to make it look bad :p It's not an inc3st even if they have "brotherly friend relationship", so what could be wrong ab it

Were they born together? No. Were their parents married? Painter doesn't even have one. Was painter adopted? Nope. Soooo any more questions?
