As Twitchy reported, Charlotte, N.C., Mayor Patrick Cannon recently resigned after being charged with criminal activity. Charlie Ruffalo, who owns a Sub Station II in Rock Hill, S.C., decided to make the most of the situation: http://twitter.com/#!/subguy/status/449184396869128192 Well played,…

He had plead guilty to one count of fraud in June. “You have seriously tarnished the city’s image,” U.S. District Judge Frank Whitney said to Mr. Cannon before handing down his punishment. Cannon apologized profusely for this misbehavior. "I have failed as a father, I have failed as a husband, I failed as a servant leader, and I failed as a citizen," he told the judge. Cannon pleaded guilty to one count of honest services wire fraud, about three months after he was elected the mayor of Charlotte. Cannon was first elected to the Charlotte City council in 1993. He was the youngest member of the council, being elected at the age of 26. He was arrested on March 26, and resigned the mayorship later that day.

Former Charlotte, N.C., mayor gets nearly 4 years in federal corruption case
Former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon was sentenced on Tuesday to 44 months in U.S. prison after admitting to using his public positions in North Carolina's largest city for personal financial gain, including taking at least $50,000 in bribes. Cannon, a Democrat who served on the Charlotte City Council before being elected mayor last November, pleaded guilty in June to a public corruption charge. A nearly four-year investigation resulted in his arrest and resignation in March. U.S. prosecutors said Cannon accepted bribes from a strip club owner and two undercover federal agents posing as investors in exchange for helping them navigate city government and zoning issues through his elected positions.

What Does $20,000 In Cash Look Like?
Susan Stabley of the Charlotte Business Journal brings up an interesting point about the FBI complaint that accuses former mayor Patrick Cannon of public corruption: If an undercover FBI agent posing as a developer showed up at the Government Center in uptown with a leather Fossil briefcase with a $20,000 bribe for the mayor inside, wouldn't security guards have, at least, searched the briefcase and found the cash? While it certainly isn't illegal to walk around with a briefcase full of money, you'd think it would've set off some red flags.
And while it sounds impressive, 20 Large isn't really all that... large. The above video shows $20,000 broken down into the largest possible denomination: 200 $100 bills. The weight is around 0.4 pounds, although as you can see, there is still enough cash there to fan about, possibly next to your ear.
