Francis (Liam Aiken), a dispossessed young man, is summoned to the secluded home of his wealthy childhood friend, JP Luret (Joe Adler), who is suffering from a mysterious affliction. Upon his arrival, Francis realizes that JP and his ethereal twin sister Vivian (Annalise Basso) are the sole surviving members of the privileged Luret family, whose legacy has been one of depression and self-destruction, and the only occupants of their family estate. As the old friends attempt to reconnect, a number of inexplicable incidents begin to occur within the house, and Francis finds himself drawn into a world of malaise and despair, where an act of betrayal might provide his only way out…
So enjoyed this. Just watched The Bloodhound, based on Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher. The Bloodhound takes a nice slow, creepy, claustrophobic spin on the tale. Nothing much happens, and yet everything happens, just like a good gothic tale should. Delicious!
Most would recognise Patrick as Pat Jenkins, the lead guitarist of My Favorite Highway, which disbanded last year. I've been searching for this album for a while actually, but I can't download from iTunes or Amazon here in Singapore, so I was pretty stoked when I found that he put it on Bandcamp. If you like this, do support him and buy his album either on iTunes, Amazon or Bandcamp.
Automatic's my favourite track, but they're all very sweet, acoustic tracks that you could leave on replay all day. Patrick's vocals are very light, it lingers on the back of your mind, with the gentle rhythm of the acoustic guitar in the background. Even though it's not something grand and spectacular, it captures one in its own way, invokes thoughts, and it's a very genuine EP from him.
I was heartened to see that Valentine was produced by David Wazeter, which is My Favorite Highway's lead vocalist, Dave Cook's new nickname. It's quite fascinating, how they've changed their names, erased all their internet history, but it's also quite painful. Almost like they've never existed. But they're beautiful, and I hope that one day, they'll reunite.
