Do you think investing in a 89 Dodge daytona 2.5 turbo is a smart choice for me? I'm pretty poor and I found someone selling one for 1200 but the motor is blown out. I'm going to be driving around 150 miles a day so i need good gas mileage and a reliable car.
god no. not in my opinion at least
let’s look at the facts.
you need to drive 150 MILES A DAY (that’s like 75 just one way??) which means well-over an hour commute daily which is a damn lot
a car with a currently blown engine means the engine needs to be rebuilt. I personally don’t own a Dodge Daytona, nor do I know anyone that owns one, but I can guarantee that rebuilding its engine is going to take work and money. If you do it yourself, I suppose that you can cut down on labour costs, but depending on your knowledge of working on cars, I’d probably trust an actual shop with it more, which won’t be very cheap
even if you rebuild something completely, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be back up to its OEM specifications and reliability, which suggests that it will inevitably break down again during your 150 mile daily commute. If you don’t have much money, then it’s going to be very hard financing all the little things that will go wrong
an old Daytona with a blown engine is the perfect recipe for a project car on the side, but definitely not something that you actually have to commute in and use as a daily driver, especially in your scenario. I’d honestly suggest the “normal” choices, like a recent Civic, Camry, Accord, etc. or anything along those lines for what you need.
get the Daytona after you’re financially stable and you have something on the side that you KNOW you can rely on to take you where you need.
