Yip Siu Leung
What is all these hates on Yip Siu Leung and the actor who played his role: Patrick Tang?
I'm not such an expert to criticize whether his acting was good enough or not.
But as a villain, come on, he succeeded. He could make people hate him. He would be glad to know he succeeded. But why must you hate Patrick Tang?
As for Yip Siu Leong, well, so far I see, he was just one small chess piece. He is not even the biggest Black Cop. He doesn't have cunning big hidden agenda-s and plans as to rule the world or smash the whole Hong Kong police industry. He just wanted money and woman! Yeah, a very small amount of money in scales of the real gangsters and drug industries out there.
Now, lets talk about "woman" that he wanted. That ICAC's ambitious bitch Ah Yan is the main source of all the problems.
Well, whether your partner is a "just" guy who was later thrown into jail for black business or a dirty cop who's tipping off the bad guys for money, YOUR JOB IS TO LOVE THEM AND SUPPORT THEM IN ANY CONDITION.
Just because your partner did something you personally hate since you're a freaking justice-upholding person, doesn't mean, you could just HATE them, retreat your feelings and leave them, or maybe jumping off to another person who you think is 'just'.
It doesn't work that way, ah Yan. Thats not how the 'feelings' work and if you just could get it right at the first place, no one would have died.
Let's get back to Yip Siu Leung. What did he do? He protected his own property, which is, his fiancee.
He truly loved someone. When the girl is so down with life, he helped her. He thus got her 'innocently'.
And, BOOM, the ex came back. He saw his fiancee and the ex kissing. If you were in his shoes, HOW WOULD YOU FEEL? He didn't even show up and buat kecoh. HOW NOBLE HE IS already!
If I were him, Im pretty sure I would have pulled my guns and shot them at the scene already.
Wouldn't you hate that ex who showed up after everything you've built for so damn long time have finally about to come true, and taking everything away from you!?
Yip Siu Leong, who is just another human, doing black business on his own, just wanted to build a better future with the one he loves. and WOOO, guess what!? His 'everything' betrayed him. His 'everything' used his trust and love, to throw him into jail!
Would you have reacted differently from him? I might not. And overall, Yip Siu Leong has really done nothing horrible, except for being a love-blind and money-digger.
And he was even killed by the ex of his 'love of his life' and his 'everything' reunited happily with her ex at his death.
Honestly speaking, I hated Yip Siu Leong like everyone else at first as well. As some point of the drama, for some reason, I started to think from a different angle, which is, from his point of view.
He was just another pitiful villain character shown up and died to let the love between the couple spice up and grow. I was so obsessed with Patrick Tang around episode 18, 19 and 20, and honestly speaking, I cried at episode 20 where his death was confirmed. The reunion of Ah Yan and Kobe isn't all sweet to me.
R.I.P Yip Siu Leong. And no matter how people hate you for your characters, there're still people like me who love you and acknowledge your effort out there, Patrick Tang. <3
