Patronus - OUAT Hogwarts
Ruby slumped further down in her seat, god she hated this lesson. They were supposed to be practising their patronus charms but Ruby's wand lay exactly where it had all lesson. Everyone else in the class had at least managed a silvery mist, most had even progressed to proper animals. Emma's graceful silver swan flew past and the scowl on Ruby's face deepened.
It wasn't that she hadn't tried, more that you needed a happy memory strong enough to give it shape. Ruby hadn't had all that much to celebrate in her life. Her mother was one of Voldemort's biggest supporters, she was the first werewolf to attend Hogwarts with everyone knowing she was a wolf and because of that she also had to deal with people shifting away from her everywhere she went. She was miserable and her patronus, or lack-there-of, reflected that.
A silver bird landed on her desk, nudging her wand towards her. Blue eyes glanced around the room until she locked eyes with Snow. She wanted her to try again and Ruby answered her with a scowl before picking up her wand and muttering the incantation. The wolf's scowl grew when instead of producing a silver something, it flew backwards and hit her face instead.
Sporting a welt on her cheek she snarled up at Snow, the other girl's gentle hands checking the mark even as it healed before her eyes. "Still having problems huh? It's okay, you'll get there. I know you will, just don't stop trying okay?" And there it was, Snow's unfailing faith in her despite what she was, the monster within.
Snow. That was her happy memory. Her mother wanted her to forsake humanity and join her, Granny wanted her to be human. Snow was the only one who told her it was okay to be both wolf and girl. Her hand moved by itself, her wand going through the motions as she spoke.
"Expecto Patronum."
And there it was, A silver wolf waiting for her command, but there was something different about it. She'd expected it to be a wolf but the muzzle, paws and tip of its tail seemed to be slightly red in colour. Giving a wolfish smile the patronus bounded off around the room, Snow's bird riding its back as the canine pounced on Killian's patronus before darting off. Turning to Snow she smiled. "You're my happy memory."
