De eerste gebouwde moskee in Cambridge is een rustige oase van contemplatie in een boomgaard. Architect Marks Barfield was geïnspireerd door een beeld van de paradijselijke tuin - met zijn waterfontein die symbool staat voor de bron van alle leven. De leidende geometrie van het gebouw is het patroon The Breath of the Compassionate (tutorial), een historisch islamitisch patroon dat de in- en uitademing van het gebouw uitbeeldt. Herhalende steroctagons worden omgezet in een doorlopend constructief patroon en geprojecteerd op de driedimensionale waaiervormige gewelven. Afwisselend worden octagons omgebouwd tot dragende kolommen of 'boomstammen'. De 30 bomen geven een totaalbeeld van rust, stilte en focus. 2746 stukken vormen de gewelfde structuur. Waar mogelijk zijn metalen verbindingsstukken vervangen door halve overlappende verbindingen voor de continuïteit van de houtnerf.

making the tiles seem to fit perfectly next to eachother without weird gaps is the hardest part of making a good pattern it seems..
