Nu Ji-Ahn/Dr. Carmilla Orozco-Lancaster (Dr. OrLa) is considered strange among demons. She chooses to show almost ALL her demonic traits: patterns, fangs, pointed ears, claws, and slit pupils.
This choice was made because of an incident in the early ‘70s. Before that, she completely hid her demonic traits. Choosing to abandon her Korean identity and heritage and completely embrace her Chicana one. But this incident changed things, she wanted to embrace this side of her she abandoned.
And she did this by choosing to show them. By forcing herself to show them, she had to reconcile with them and herself. Slowly but surely she learned to love herself: demon traits and all.
It came with a bonus: she had silenced Gwi-Ma’s voice and his influence over her. For her patterns and association with demons had been her shame. But now? She embraces this side of her, removing any shame her could exploit.
