So in #MandarinChinese "behind" 后，hou4, can mean later or afterwards in some contexts BUT 差， cha4, to fall short IS used in time expressions like "a quarter to one, 差一刻一点". So the insight that forward and backward words does not always ring true with time. Maybe these are only physical place references and time does not follow this trend cause its more mental.
