Peachtober is starting tomorrow & I'm pretty much unprepared 😬🙃

I did thumbnail sketches (see video), even did the first few paintings only to not like them. Like at all. I even considered just not doing it at all this year but I love peachtober too much🥺

Soo... in order to survive this month and especially have fun with art instead of being stressed about it 24/7, I'm gonna have to go against my perfectionism & go easy on myself 😌

Which basically means: Some days will be watercolor, others might be digital, I'll try to have process videos but I won't promise anything. I also will "allow" myself to skip days/prompts or even quit if I reach my limit 🤷🏼‍♀️

This year, it's gonna be a wild ride & it's gonna be all over the place but I'm going to try my best to embrace that 💫✨

First painting of the year: check ✅

The concept of "mountains" doesn't really exist where I live (I first typed "mointains" which is all you really need to know about my relationship to mountains tbh 👀) & I'm more of a sea-girl anyways, so I really surprised myself with desperately wanting to paint some.

But I really like how this turned out (even better seen from a 1-1,5m distance if I'm being honest 😅) & it might sound silly but the first painting of the year being a good one that I keep looking at gives me such a boost in confidence 😌✨

I also tried out new paper which so far I'm really impressed with. Especially for it being cellulose & rather cheap 🙃 (Clairefontaine Goldline Aquapad). I need to test it further in more "extreme" situations like heavy lifting, layering etc., but this might become one of my favourites 🥰💙

I still can't believe I won one of the official World Watercolor Month Giveaways but here we are 🥰 The supplies arrived the other weeks & I'm absolutely over the moon & grateful to now have them in my arsenal, especially since it's not that easy to get my hands on them here 🙃✨

At first I wasn't quite sure how versatile the colour palette of the paints in the set would be as it is a rather unusual colour selection. But having since painted with it a bit, I'm impressed at the range of colours I can get with just these 5 😍

The Princeton Neptune size 10 is the only brush I've tested out so far. It honestly does everything I need from tiny details to big washes, so I didn't feel the urge to reach for the others (yet) 💙

I have yet to be brave enough to try the paper 😬 It seems really nice & I still have that silly fear of "ruining" paper but I'll eventually have to face that one 🙃✨

I've recently been struggling again to find/see a common thread within my art. I just feel like I'm interested in too many things, want to do too many different projects all at once & kind of chameleon my way through different art works, adapting each & every time.

I don't think that's ever really gonna change, but I'm slowly trying to learn to accept & embrace it.

I know it's still a bit of time until July, and with that ✨World Watercolour Month 2023✨, starts. But I'm already trying to prep a little bit & since it's my I guess 4th year doing this, don't really know what kind of theme I want to do this year. So far I've come up with:

Foods: Idk, maybe fruits/veggies, tho I've done that in I think 2020. My sister suggested ice cream, but I've also done that in 2021 🤔🙃

Plants/Animals: Maybe flowers with insects or plants alternating with smaller animals/insects?

Random: Like last year, mostly random landscapes/sceneries

If you'd like to help, please vote below and/or leave suggestions/ideas in the comments/tags/whereever really 🙃 (also please keep in mind that for a month long challenge these paintings are going to be rather simple/quick in order for me to not burn out 😬)

I know what you're thinking, and yes, this is indeed a painting from January. One that I always thought I couldn't scan because of the extreme texture 🥺

But since the old multifunctional printer & scanner device (that I snatched from my dad when he bought a new one) for some reason refused to work one day, I kinda fell into a rabbit hole of scanners & did some a lot of research.

Today my new (to me, it's second hand 🙃) scanner finally arrived and can we please talk about the texture visible in this scan??! 😲😍And this is just a quick test scan with lower settings I'd usually go for for prints etc.

I don't know about you, but I'm seeing so many possibilities for finally being able to use more textured media while not being sad I could never make prints or other reproductions of it. & also no more blurry patches where the paper wasn't 100% flat.🤯💙 (The last one most likely no one but me ever noticed, but it was a thing I always put under "I don't like it, but that's just a downside of scanners")

I'm so amazed & honestly don't know why I didn't invest in a proper scanner sooner 😬 Okay, I'm gonna stop rambling on and on about this now. Back to the regular schedule. Have a good day 👋🏻

Playing with watercolours in an abstract way because lately I didn't really feel like painting 🥲✨ (I wrote down some thoughts below the read more tho)

Lately, I didn't feel like painting. I don't know exactly why. Maybe it's the seasons changing, maybe it's the overload of paintings I've done in the past months. But what I do know is that I have had phases like this before. It's not art block, because I have tons of ideas in my head that are just waiting to be painted. It's more that the voice inside my head saying "why bother?" & "What's the point?" when I want to paint yet another citrus painting or seascape is becoming deafening & drowning everything else out. I always used to think I can only ever paint a thing once & then the next painting has to be different. Which is a stupid thought but probably one social media planted as to always be "fresh" & "new". Sometimes I'm better at not listening to that thought than other times. This is not a fishing for compliments or something, because frankly that wouldn't be helpful (kinda like saying "but you're so pretty!" to a depressed person isn't helpful either) It's more sharing my thoughts at the moment that somehow make me feel incredibly vulnerable. I know this phase will pass as it has multiple times already. Painting motifs I've painted before, silencing the voice inside my head that tells me I shouldn't bother doing it. It's just not right now. I will be painting again. 💙
