You have no idea how much this photo means to me and I cannot believe I didn't know it existed. I was aware Patti and Jenna were nominated in the same category at the Tony's (Patti for Gypsy, and Jenna for Sunday in the Park With George. Both absolutely amazing performances) but this was the end of the 2000s; we just didn't have the same access to images, info, or even aware shit was going on sometimes.

But like...I've loved Patti since 2010 (although, oddly, I was blasting her singing on the Anything Goes soundtrack when I was 14, but didn't know it was her; I was just obsessed with Cole Porter haha), but Jenna I have loved since 2002. I have seen her in so many things (never met her though. Although I almost got to meet her backstage due to a friend of a friend working with her, but Covid stopped it happening! Wah!) and she is just one of my favourite performers of all time. She is right there alongside Patti; I'd find it very hard to pick between them.

And they have both played Fantine. Jenna's Fantine is the one I've seen performed. And Jenna was also in Piaf the musical, something which Patti always wanted to do. They're both the same vocal ranges. They both have done a lot of Sondheim (Jenna is actually called, alongside Hannah Waddingham, one of the 'Sondheim Babes' over here, and worked with him a lot) so due to all this overlap, I always just say Patti is my favourite American stage performer, and Jenna is my favourite British.

They did a show together, a Sondheim thing, with others, in 2008 or 2009, but I have no idea if they ever actually sang together because the production was never recorded.

I need these two to actively perform together. It would be the most niche request of just me, but fuck I wish it would happen.
