Paul Beasley, Singer for The Blind Boys of Alabama, Dies at 78

The tenor earned a total of five Grammy nominations during his tenure in the group.

Blind Boy of Alabama Paul Beasley Dies at 73

- “(He) was the greatest falsetto in modern quartet history,” Eli Paperboy Reed says

Gospel singer Paul Beasley, who spent the past decade with the Blind Boys of Alabama, has died, the band said.

Beasley was 73; the date and cause of his death were not given.

“In life there are some things that only come once … and the legacy and voice of Paul Beasley is one of those things,” the Blind Boys said in a statement. “Thank God for him. He was often imitated, but never duplicated.”

Beasley “was the greatest falsetto in modern quartet history,” Eli Paperboy Reed said in eulogizing the singer.

Beasley sung with the Mighty Clouds of Joy and the Gospel Keynotes before joining the Blind Boys for their 2013 release, I’ll Find a Way.

“The memories that we shared are unsurpassed,” the Blind Boys said. “Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of his family and friends.”
