Week 4
I feel like this was a week for getting organized...
Public Art Proposal Group: Carson, Aimee and I met after class and decided we would make a site visit to the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre the following Wednesday after class. I offered to assemble a rough outline of our timeline and tasks as well as summarize the ideas we came up with.
Art Happens Group Presentation: Carley, Sasha and I have not come together yet with anything but the in-class exercise was helpful in seeing the number and variety of creative ideas for art happenings on KPU campus. I’m excited to see this project come to closer to an actual plan of action.
Practicum with Paul Wong: Sara, Kira and I met at Paul’s live-in art studio. An hour long discussion clarified some expectations and directions. The practicum will involve primarily archival activities for documentary materials from 2012-present. We will be engaged in a collaborative process to organize documentations related to Paul’s video projects, which will then be displayed in a physical library area of his new studio space.
In preparation for my meeting, I made sure to research Paul Wong, especially his more recent work, since I was already familiar with his previous work The Mainstreeters. One of my favorite pieces was his light sculpture titled ‘No Thing Is Forever’, commissioned by Michael Audain for the Audain Art Museum. And surprise, I got to see the pillows with this sculpture printed on. If I had $50 cash I would buy it right then and there...
Over all, I feel this is practicum will be a good opportunity to learn about the process of archiving and documenting artists works, and will be a valuable addition to my resume.
