Top 5 Lakes in Pune to Visit with Family
There are so many lakes around Pune and most people do not even realise how many good spots are just a short drive away. If you are looking for a pleasant day out with the family but do not want to travel too far, these lakes are well worth a look.
1. Pashan LakeIt is popular with birdwatchers, but families like it, too. In the wintertime, a lot of birds come here and it looks really pretty. Kids walk around and take pictures and elders in the family usually sit on a bench and enjoy the breeze. If possible, go early in the morning; there is less of a crowd and nice weather.
2. Khadakwasla Dam and LakeAlmost everyone in Pune has been here at least once. It is one of those go-to spots for families because of how open and big the area is. There are also small food stalls near the parking area so you do not need to pack snacks from home if you forget.
3. Mulshi LakeThis is a little far from the city so it works better as a half-day trip. But the drive itself is nice, lots of green hills on the way. Monsoon season is the best time; everything looks fresh and green, though roads can get a bit slippery so drive carefully with kids in the car.
4. Pavna LakePeople usually come here to camp but families also come to sit by the water for a while. If your family enjoys a mix of sightseeing and a bit of adventure, you can also fit in Lohagad Fort, which is close by.
5. Katraj LakeThis is in the city so no long drive is needed. Good choice if you want a quick night out. There is a zoo and snake park next to it, and kids usually enjoy that more than the lake itself.
If it is a larger family gathering, maybe cousins and relatives are coming along, then travelling in separate cars just gets complicated. A 45 seater bus rental in Pune works out much better in that case; everyone sits together, nobody gets left behind at a stop, and the total cost per person also comes down when the group is large.
