Pax Renaissance. I got Cromwell on my first turn, so I figured I had to give the Reformation in England a shot. Cromwell was able to both usurp the English crown and turn it into a Protestant theocracy, and then carry the reformation across the channel to France. I was vaguely close-ish to the religious win a couple times, but I just didn’t have the depth to pull it off. Winning the religious victory via Protestantism is a tough row to hoe; Islam and Catholicism are much stronger plays, but you go with the cards 😄. The winner went the globalization/mercantilism route, which I’m not sure I’ve seen before in ~10-ish games. Just as a game, mechanically and narratively, Pax Renaissance is probably SMG’s best, but I admit I find the humanity of Greenland and Neanderthal more engaging. We played with a bunch of cards from the expansion; they seemed like a bit of a mixed bag and I’m not sure I liked them - some are really, really strong. Not the no-brainer to add that the Pax Pamir expansion cards are. But I’d definitely give them some more play to explore. Anyway, I always enjoy this and the playing time of 2hr-ish is perfect. #bgg #boardgamegeek #boardgames #sierramadregames #paxrenaissance (at Game Kastle - Mountain View)
