People think the nwsl's minimum salary of 16k is bad, but just remember ahead of the 2016 Olympics in Rio Dick's Sporting Goods started a program to hire Olympians just so they could have some kind of living wage since they aren't financial supported by a league or Team USA & have to come up with their own money for training, housing, etc. And the Olympics is only every four years, if it all works out they walk away with bonuses for medals (bronze 15k, silver 22.5k, gold 37.5k) if not they get zero compensation for 4 years of training.
