Terminator: 2029 by Bethesda Softworks 

One of the first PC games I ever played with ingame narrative. Terminator 2029 includes a life on the base you experience between missions. The difficult shapes of the robot killers are surprisingly realistic for the age of the game.

In the 1990s computer graphics improved. Production houses began creating 3D video trailers and tacking them at the beginning of a game.

Game designers were often criticised for putting too much emphasis on the trailer and misleading the gamer about the quality of the game interaction they were about to experience.

One of the more memorable trailers of the decade was created by Bullfrog for a titled called Syndicate. Many of the vehicles, buildings and weapons featured in the trailer appear throughout the game. The game delivered what the trailer promised. The trailer was not short, so production costs would have been considerable.
