❝  you'll  get  your  shipment  when  i  say  you'll  get  it  .  ❞  she  nearly  growls  into  the  phone  ,  annoyance  the  very  taste  buds  on  her  tongue  ,  as  she  soon  discards  the  item  on  the  desk  beside  her  .  she  knows  that  such  a  deal  should  be  handled  with  care  ,  precision  ,  but  she  finds  the  very  sound  of  the  man's  voice  a  vexation  in  the  hollow  of  her  chest  .  the  kind  that  makes  it  nearly  impossible  to  not  want  to  shatter  something  ,  or  shoot  something  .  she  hears  the  footsteps  before  she  sees  her  ,  and  for  a  moment  ,  she  considers  lashing  out  ,  at  whoever  has  come  to  expand  that  annoyance  .  but  the  sight  of  stella  stills  her  ,  eases  the  grip  of  anger  that  has  curled  its  fingers  around  her  .  ❝  hello  ,  mi  amor  .  ❞  she  practically  purrs  ,  as  her  gaze  lifts  to  settle  on  stella  ,  a  soft  smile  now  curled  upon  her  lips  .  ❝  if  you've  come  looking  for  diego  ,  he  isn't  around  .  ❞

"i'm open to being bribed for the ibuprofen in my pocket." originally, he thought he'd say something normal, like that she looked nice, or ask her if the cheese tray had monterey jack, but then he saw the bruising on her face and completely forget about sounding like a sane person. the consequences of having so many younger siblings, probably, but damn, she looked like she could use the ibuprofen more than he could. "but i hope you have something stronger than that in your system." it wasn't any of his business what happened to her face and he wasn't going to be crass enough to ask. he'd offered her pain pills, that was the extent of his involvement. @pcisonpctal

"I took two aspirin and I called you this morning, why are you giving me that look?" Diego muttered quietly to Stella as he frowned at the mint garnish on the tray of drinks in front of him. Despite the amount of ill-gained money he had, Diego's opinion of the rich and influential generally wasn't that favorable since opulence usually made him think of corruption and the bright, welcoming faces of the Mayor's staff wasn't helping any with that. "I'm not bleeding through, and I'm not taking anything stronger in a viper pit like this."

Despite the wet rag from the bar held over his nose, smoke still crept inside his lungs, a cough threatening to rattle its way out of his rib cage. Stuck inside of his midsection was a mess broken wood and glass and the idea of coughing and making his body shift and tense was something Diego didn't want to do as he tried to look around for a way to deal with the wound. If he yanked everything out, there was a risk of leaving slivers behind, but also bleeding out. Maybe there was something he could use to pack it behind the bar, another rag or a cool pack, that would help slow the bleeding, but what he really wanted was needle and thread, or a damn medic, or - "Stella?"
