Throwback to me and baby Jaxston Gandalf, inspired by some deep #agility #training convos after class tonight. We really have such a fun, passionate crew this session at #PCOTC!!! So glad I got into this sport with @jaxston_the_pom and to have @hounds_of_heck as a coach! In the midst of everything that’s been going on lately in my own little world, I feel the need to take some time to reflect...pardon Insta as an outlet haha. 🐾 Even though there are many times I wish Jax and I were already trialing (largely due to my impatient and goal-oriented nature lol), I’m learning so much on this journey with him—how to be a patient handler, how to recognize his needs, and how to set him up for success in his environment, no matter what it may be. And ultimately, these are “all the things” that will make us a stronger agility team. 🙃 🐾 I mean, he is my first dog ever in my life, so we’ll get there people haha. But in all seriousness, I guess this is just a reminder that sometimes, as it was put so well tonight, “by NOT doing, we ARE doing.” By taking a step back or away from training (going on a hike, taking a decompression walk, letting our dog sniff a little longer, etc.), we are actually improving or strengthening different aspects of our training (focus, obstacle commitment, connection)—so that our dog’s will succeed in doing their job in those moments that we ask them to work. And this can honestly translate into the human world just the same. (I should listen to myself more; I make a valid point 🤣). 🐾 So with that said, I hope to be more mindful of my dog, to make training sessions fun and purposeful, and to allow agility to be the most amazing thing in the world for Jax. Because as we grow into the incredible agility team we’re capable of becoming, I know that it will be. Not only for him, but for the both of us. 😊 And that’s why you should all do agility.
