@pcrmeation liked this for a starter !!
learning how to be a hero had never been easy for tamaki, but at least before overhaul he’d been starting to feel at least a little like things were clicking. but now? now he wonders if he’s even keeping his head above water most days. his eye shouldn’t be as much of an issue as it is, but he still hasn’t quite gotten into the habits required for contacts, and he still hasn’t told mirio or even nejire for that matter, and that means there’s no one around to really remind him until he’s already at fatgum’s. by then it’s too late and he forces himself to manage.
it’s the secrets, he thinks, that weigh on him most. tamaki’s so busy trying to restore the status quo for mirio, while also trying to make life as easy as possible for him --- and, in his mind, much of that has turned into his just not talking about anything that has to do with himself. not really talking anyway.
so when he comes back to their dorm that night, a little more beaten up than usual, and a little more tired than he wants to be, he immediately steers the conversation away from himself before mirio even has a chance to blink.
“ kirishima was late today. but he did really well. I don’t get how he’s quieter than that tetsutetsu kid but. . . ”
