A Spotlight on PCSW
For more than 40 years, I don’t think there has been a stronger voice in achieving greater equality between men and women than that of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW).
And having that powerful voice to advocate for them has in turn given countless women the inspiration and strength to raise their own voices on issues that affect them and their families.
Remember, it has only been a little over 90 years since women earned the right to vote. In that time we have gone from being shut out of the political process to being most powerful voting block in the nation. And after all these decades of fighting to be heard it sure feels good to be one of the loudest voices in the room.
But there is still an overwhelming discrepancy between the number of men and women representing the citizens of Connecticut in government. And the only way we are going to keep our momentum toward equality going is to get more women involved in the political process.
I am confident that PCSW – and Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund - will continue to do just that by giving women the confidence to keep facing new challenges, including running for office, while holding down all of their other responsibilities.
It can be a difficult balance. But it is one that we must achieve in order to keep speaking out for what we believe in - and to question what we don’t.
