The pond we labeled the swamp became frozen solid. The boys in the neighborhood organized shoveling the layer of snow off the top. Everyone came out to the big hill to sled. A bonfire at the top and another at the bottom. The pond was nestled in a batch of Poplars and bare maples. You could see the light of the bonfires from the secret skating pond. The moon was full. We must have stayed there day and night that weekend. Only coming inside to take warm up breaks and getting refueled. Skating in the moonlight on a layer of untouched ice that was like glass.
